Bonnie Joan Buckner born September 29, 1938 at Memorial Hospital on East Broad St., left us to meet her beloved Schnauzer "Trek" on the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
She was predeceased by her parents, James William Henry Buckner and Bethel Cleo Virginia Olson Buckner; step-brother, Richard William Buckner, Sr.; and brother, Brian Wesley Buckner.
After retiring from the VA Dept. of Social Services with 31 years of service. She joined the Shepard Center of Richmond where she began classes in Geneology, joining the Geneology Records Institute of Richmond (GRIVA), VA Geneology Society (VGS), National Geneology Society (NGS), Wisconsin State Geneology Society (WSGS) and the Dane Co. area Geneology Society of Stoughton Wisconsin (DCAGS), where her mother was from. She was very proud of her Danish and Norwegian heritage and especially the English great-grandfather who became a Coal Miner at Winterpock, VA.
A Life long member of First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, she joined the women's organization. She served in many capacities over the years, the last being 20 years as Treasurer of the group. Also Bonnie was a long time member of the Church's Senior Travel Group (aka- The Leisure Group), she enjoyed many bus trips from Canada to New Orleans, excursions to the Carabian, Alaska and her favorite Hawaii.
A voracious reader, she was never without a book in her hand. She became an avid Hockey fan with the start of the Richmond Robins and now is a big Capitals Fan. She is survived by several cousins and very special friends Mertie Smith of Powhatan and Cynthia Dalton and family of Powhatan.
Remains handled by Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, Anderson Highway, Powhatan VA. A Graveside service will be held in the Powhatan Community Cemetery, Powhatan Courthouse, VA. Monday July 8th, 2024 at 10:30 AM.
