Bonnie LLewellyn Dowdy

July 26, 1948 — July 4, 2015

DOWDY, Bonnie Llewellyn, 66, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully and entered into her eternal rest in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 4, 2015. She was born July 26, 1948 in Cumberland to the late Garland L. Dowdy and the late Lucy Martin Dowdy (Polly). Bonnie is survived by her beloved Aunt, Mary Ann Martin of Cumberland, one uncle, William T Martin of Richmond, several cousins and many friends in the community. Bonnie graduated from Cumberland High School and went on to attend Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond. Her career included work at The Boys Home of Virginia in Richmond, student counseling at Cumberland High and also many hours of tutoring boys and girls in the area. She was quite gifted in teaching and could help a child understand and learn the most difficult of subjects. Bonnie spent her entire life in Cumberland where she enjoyed a quiet and simple life. She enjoyed the piano, cross stitching and always loved animals and had a special place in her heart for them. The family wishes to thank all the staff at The Woodlands in Farmville for their devoted care for Bonnie and also thank you to all the many care givers, nurses and therapists who came and took care of her in the home. She so enjoyed and appreciated each of you. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Cumberland Volunteer Rescue Squad, Cartersville Volunteer Rescue Squad or Your local Animal Shelter
