Carl W. Fehr, 87, of Powhatan, our beloved father and grandfather, passed away April 10, 2017.
Born May 27, 1929 in Red Bud, Ill., he was the son of Charles Ernst Fehr and Mathilda Mennerich-Fehr. A man with spirit and grit, he rose in rank to retire from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. In his later years, he still rode his bike every day during the winters he spent in Florida with his military brothers. As long as he was able, he changed the oil in his car, climbed ladders and could repair just about anything — and enjoyed doing this for others, too. He appreciated the challenge of fixing the broken, and got more than one B52 off the ground after it had been grounded.
He fiercely loved his family and worked hard to care for each of his children, even as adults. He saw it as his most important job. He modeled hard work, but also how to enjoy life. An avid hunter and fisherman, he drank in the outdoors.
He and his wife, Doris, shared seven wonderful years before she passed on in 2013. They traveled the country together in their RV. He finishes his journey by being laid to rest next to her.
He leaves his family to cherish his memory: his children, Donna Garcia, Cathy Fehr, Carla Krausz, Karl Fehr, Ray Fehr, Helen Fehr, his step daughter Christy Rupertus, his sister Helen Stockton, his 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
