Donald (Don) Elbert Smith peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at his Shirt Tail Farm in Powhatan, VA.
He was the husband of the late Lucinda Sue Smith, the father of the late Kevin John Smith and son of the late Roy M. Smith, Jr., and Edith Minor Smith.
He is survived by a devoted sister, Nancy Washabaugh, his “Little Boys” Isaac, Nathan, Owen and James, his special loving and devoted family, Brian and Amanda Maslyk, nieces, nephews, son, Brian Smith and brother, Steve Smith.
Growing up in the Shenandoah Valley, he developed a love of the land that was infused in all that he did. Upon graduation from Woodrow Wilson Technical Center, Don proudly joined the US Army in 1967 serving as a medic in Saigon. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he combined his medical experience and his innate gift of repairing absolutely anything into a successful family-owned business repairing medical equipment in hospitals all over the world. His restless spirit was evident in his many hobbies; rebuilding cars and tractors, gardening, fishing, racing, decorating, spending time at the beach, and cooking-especially his famous deviled eggs. Even though Don’s rebuilt 1970 Boss Mustang won numerous awards at car shows, and he had victories on the racetrack, all this paled in comparison to his love of his grandsons and his country!!
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. God Bless You PeePaw!
