Dorothy Smith Lowery

Dorothy Smith "Dot" Lowery, 86, a lifelong resident and icon of Powhatan, was called home unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thelma & Thomas Smith; step-mother June; sisters Mildred, Alice and Helen; brother Arthur Lee; several nieces and nephews, step-siblings, and the man she loved until her last breath, W.C. "Snooks" Lowery, Sr.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Cyndi Lowery, Warren Lowery, Jr. (Melissa) and Christy Woodel (William); grandsons Clay, Colby and Cavan, who were the lights of her life; brother Gene Smith (Minnie); Aunt Wanda; brother in-law Philip Lowery; step-relatives, many nieces, nephews and friends, and three very special friends, Beverly Fielder, Loretta Hawkes and Lucie Buchanan.

She loved her family, friends, Frisby's Catfish and Bingo at the Powhatan Moose Lodge, where she was a charter member. She also enjoyed all her years of employment at C & P Telephone Company/Bell Atlantic.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite local charity in her name, and that you keep the family in your prayers.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 26th from 4-8 in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home where her Celebration of Life will be held Monday at 11:00 am. Internment Powhatan Community Cemetery.
