Fleetwood Douglas Davant, Jr., former long-time resident of King George VA, passed away on March 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Bon Secours Community Hospice House in Richmond, VA.
Doug is preceded in death by his father, Fleetwood Douglas "Buddy" Davant, Sr and mother, Carol Humbert Perry. He is survived by his sisters, Suzanne Beusse (Tommy), Carol Scarborough (Randy); daughter, Katherine Davant Glidewell (Tim); grandsons, Christian and Cameron Glidewell; and step-daughter, Brandy Carroway Firmin (Kirk).
Fleetwood, affectionately known as "Doug", served his country during Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. George Washington as active duty and later retired with the United States Navy Reserves as a Petty Officer First Class, after 27 years of service. Having a gift for the written word, Doug studied journalism at Mankato State University, MN and earned his B.A. in 1973. Doug later retired from Public Affairs at NSWCDD in Dahlgren, VA. Doug was a faithful and dedicated member of St. John's Episcopal Church in King George, VA for over twenty years. Doug also served with the King George Lions Club and relished giving back to his community.
Doug's greatest accomplishment in life was being an amazing father, grandfather, and a great friend to many.
A memorial service will be held on April 15, 2023 at 11a.m., at St. John's Episcopal Church in King George, VA. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or The Kidney Cancer Association.
