George Parker

June 19, 1943 — September 15, 2024

Cumberland

George Parker, 81 of Cumberland , Va passed on to be with the Lord on Sunday Sept. 15th at home with his family. He passed at home where he wanted to be when his time to move on arrived. George was a man of many gifts and talents that he gladly shared with others and was always willing to help and jump right up to lend a hand. He would be dependable and happy to help anyone any time of the day if a friend needed it. He had a passion for Coaching and was a baseball Coach for 28 years while also Coaching football and basketball.

George was born and raised in South Jersey where he played sports all year long while also hunting, farming blueberries and sweet corn and working to earn whatever he would get. He was always finding a way to help others or answer a call to lend a hand. To know George was to know a friend. George was a Boxer in the Navy proudly fighting against the Marines and Army boxers while also being assigned to send and receive Morse Code in a Submarine. He fought fires in the Forests of California after his time in the Navy until he moved back home to Northfield, NJ.

Back in Northfield George was a Volunteer Fireman, ran on the Rescue Squad, was a Jaycee, was involved all over the community and Coached so many kids in multiple sports. He always enjoyed coaching his boys and pushing them to be the best at any sport, position or challenge they took on. He loved coaching and teaching his boys "You Earn what you get, Always do it to be the best, Finish what you started and if you are going to do something then do it All the way."

He made sure his children and players always knew to show respect, give respect, respect is earned and to Love your family.

In his youth George was a multi-sport athlete where he thrived on competition and loved working for the win. George played Baseball, Basketball, flag football, Ice hockey, street hockey and then tournament softball when he was older. He was also a drag racer of Indian Motorcycles and drag cars that he would build and won multiple trophies in both circuits. When his boys were old enough he truly enjoyed teaching them about hunting, fishing, the outdoors and trap/skeet shooting. A day of pheasant hunting always brought home good stories even if there weren't any birds in the bag.

George was a very hard working man. He believed in working to provide for your family and if they needed something then he had to work more to provide for them. Lazy was never and never will be a word you can use when talking about him. He was an ace mechanic, worked construction on the side, drove a Tri-Axle dump truck and started his own hauling business until it was time to drive for another company.

Most of all George loved his family above everything else. A laugh with them was worth more than any trophy he ever won. To know George was also to know a laugh at some point. No one ever really knew what he was going to say or do next.

His wife, Pat was the light in his eye and he always said "she was his heart and without her he wouldn't exist." They were married for 53 years and took on every life challenge together. From loving each other to raising the kids to planning a fun trip they decided together. The day before George moved on he still told us she was perfect and "his Angel."

George is survived by his wife and Life Love, Pat; 3 sons, Bill Parker, Joe Parker and wife Nicola, George Parker and wife Kandace; Daughter, Sherri Moore; 10 grandchildren; sister, Andee Nave and husband Joe Nave.
