Gerald Hone Price

Gerald Hone Price, 85, of Powhatan, Virginia passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife, Lenora, and his daughter, Karen. Born on November 17, 1939, Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Jerry proudly served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1982, achieving the rank of Sargent. His military career took him to various parts of the world, including four tours in Vietnam and southeast Asia. His commitment to his country was unwavering and he received numerous medals, ribbons and commendations for his outstanding service including the National Defense Service Medal, the Airforce Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal (4 Bronze Stars).

Following his distinguished military service, Jerry worked for 23 years for the Virginia Department of Corrections overseeing HVAC operations, retiring in 2005.

Jerry was a curious, playful and creative man. He was a passionate storyteller, he delighted in making people laugh and he loved to dance! His hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He was an animal lover and naturalist; his favorite pastimes included fishing, birding and exploring the great outdoors. He enjoyed woodcarving and jewelry making and travel. His legacy of service, love, and optimism will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Lenora; his children, Gerald Price Jr, Theresa Hayden, Karen Houseknecht and Jason Price; nine grandchildren including Alex Hayden, Aidan Funkhouser and Aislinn Funkhouser; one great-grandchild; and his brother, Jim Price.

A memorial service, to honor and celebrate Jerry’s life and military service will be held at 2 PM on December 21st at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, Virginia 23139.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, in Jerry’s memory to support veterans, first responders, their families and those in need.
