James Douglas Mitchell

James Douglas Mitchell, also known as "Pawpaw Doug" passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on April 19, 2023. He is proceeded in death by his parents Margaret and Irvin Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Kay Mitchell and his siblings Larry Mitchell and Gayle Rapp. His five children and their spouses Jimmy & Stacy Mitchell, Tommy & Tabatha Mitchell,  Angie & Jeff Bowles, Brenda Peyton & David White and Jenny & Keith Plummer. He also leaves behind his "adopted" son and close friend Colon Mcartan. He will be greatly missed by his numerous grandchildren that lit up his world. Hunter Mitchell (wife Eunhui), Ayla Airhart (husband Collin), Aidan Smith, Jamie, Melanie, Mitchell and Juliann Peyton, Grayson and Chase Plummer and one great grandchild Amerie Curtis and one due in July, Linden Airhart. Doug retired from his career at the Legislative Bill Room in Richmond and has since enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family. He was loved by so many for his big heart and sense of humor. He will definitely be missed. Per his wishes we will not have a formal service but will be planning a Celebration of Life with friends and family to share stories of all of our wonderful memories.
