Joan Canada Cooper

Joan Canada Cooper, 82, of Powhatan, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Brownee and Edward Carlyle Canada. Joan graduated from Powhatan High School in June of 1959. She married John "Jack" Robert Wilmore, III in December of 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1977.  
Joan is survived by husband, Wayne T. Cooper; children from her first marriage, John Robert Wilmore, IV (Monica), Jeffrey B. Wilmore, Jerel C. Wilmore, and Jeanne Wilmore Mann (Eric); grandchildren, Raleigh Wilmore Mann and Julia Caroline Mann; siblings, Stanard Jessup, Cathy Canada, Anita Townes (Stuart), Edward Canada (Glenna), and Beverly Ellenhorn (Cory); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. 
Joan spent her career as a registered nurse for Henrico Doctors Hospital, retiring in 2010 after many years. Joan had a passion for gardening and loved tending to her plants. She will always be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. 
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, Powhatan, VA. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave. Richmond, VA 23238. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated in memory of Joan Cooper to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, 1800 Lakeside Ave. Richmond, VA 23228.
