John Henry Mullins, Jr. (Popaw to most) left the cares of this world behind on Saturday, January 16, 2016. John Henry was born in Jolo, West Virginia on June 18, 1923 to the late John Henry Mullins, Sr. and the late Pricy Rife. He is a Navy Veteran of WWII. In 1945 he married the love of his life, Bernice Elizabeth Cordle. He went on to become a coal miner in Grundy, VA before moving on to the construction industry. He continued in this field until his retirement in Cumberland, VA. There he enjoyed his love of game chickens, western movies, and classic country and gospel music. John Henry was preceded in death by his brothers; Steward, Denny, Hubert, and Thurman, and his sisters; Goldie, Clara, and Ruby Mullins. He is survived by his sisters Oakie and Shirley. He is also survived by his bride of 71 years, Bernice Elizabeth Mullins and their children; Carl (Buck) Mullins, Judith Willis, Sandra Holt, John Mullins, David Mullins, James (Tony) Mullins and Angela Gaines. Popaw was blessed with 17 grandchildren; Patricia Thompson, Pamela Mullins, Angela Gaines, Alvin Mullins, Billie Jo Copeland, Rhonda Griffin, Sonja Wood, John Wood, Sharon Gilbert, Genia Gilbert, Kim Adams, John Mullins II., Jason Mullins, Melissa Griffey, Marci Howard, Logan Swanson, and James Mullins, Jr. John Henry leaves behind over 40 great grandchildren, and 10 great, great grandchildren as well as a dear friend and caregiver, Cheyenne Marion. But he is not leaving them behind forever. Make the right choice and we will all be sitting with him again, eating at the welcome table.
