Joseph DiGiorgio, Jr., (Joe) 84, of Powhatan, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024. Joe is survived by his wife Sally (nee Kelso) of 62 years; and his five children, Tina Marie Parrish (Scott), Kelly Ann DiGiorgio (Ray Robertson), Lisa Ann McGee (Ed), Joseph Michael DiGiorgio (Gabrielle) and Melissa DiGiorgio (Dwayne Todd).
He is survived by his grandchildren, Avery and Alex Parrish, Joshua Steele, Jesse, Joseph and Jack Glass, Madison and Tara McGee, Hailey, Collin and Riley DiGiorgio, and Caitlyn Barrett (Michael); and his beautiful great-grandchildren, HaleyAnn, Kelcee, McKenna, Zoey, Lydia, Karsyn and Kailyn. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter in-law, Alex Glass.
Joe was born in Philadelphia to Norma and Joseph, Sr. He was brother to Kathryn DiGiorgio of Philadelphia.
He Graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in Pennsylvania, enlisted in the Naval Reserves while still in high school and upon graduation served active Navy on the U.S.S. Vulcan, a repair ship. After completing his Naval duty and accomplishing a Tool-Die Maker apprenticeship, he was employed by General Electric, The Boeing Corporation and Reynolds Metals.
Joe was a die-hard Eagles fan, loved to dance and was a regular on American Bandstand in Philadelphia. Many a Saturday night you would see him sashaying his wife around the dance floor at the Moose Lodge. Upon retiring he enjoyed working his garden in Tobaccoville.
The family extends a sincere Thank You to Jennifer, Alicia and Desmond of the James River Hospice team. We are grateful for the kindness and thoughtfulness of Deborah Glover.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A visitation will be held Monday November 11, 2024 from 6-8 PM at Bennett and Barden Funeral home at 3215 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan Va. 23139. A Funeral service will be held Tuesday November 12, 2024 at 10:45 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church at 2480 Batterson Rd. Powhatan Va. 23139 with interment to follow at the Amelia Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the Amelia Veterans Center, 16440 Five Forks Road, Amelia Court House, VA 23002 at 2:00 PM.
