Karmen Anna McCarney

January 9, 2001 — December 22, 2016

Karmen Anna McCarney, 15, of Powhatan County went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 22, 2016. Karmen lived a joyous life filled with family and friends and will be remembered for her vivacious spirit, beautiful smile, and innocent spirit. She is survived by her loving mother Charmaine Sue, sister Kati, and grandparents Rick & Connie McCarney; her uncle and aunt Michael & Alexandra McCarney, and cousins Sydney, Charley, and Casey.
Karmen was a true artist and innovative thinker. Her many hobbies and interests included music, cosmetology, small engine repair, and many forms of artistry. Karmen taught herself to play piano and guitar, and was excelling in both of those instruments. Her favorite genre of music was classic rock and she used those influences to compose her own music. Karmen loved to play Marimba in the school’s marching band and participated in the school’s indoor percussion program as well.
Karmen was highly thought of by her peers and was nominated to be president of the cosmetology club at Powhatan High School and vice president of Powhatan High School Skills USA program. Her countless friends considered her someone they could come to for a shoulder to cry on or for a compassionate listening ear. Karmen was following in her big sister’s footsteps as a part of the school’s cosmetology program, and the two had plans to work together someday in that field. She helped her family in so many ways with her small engine repair skills, and was always very enthusiastic to pitch in wherever she was needed around her family’s home, and enjoyed doing all outdoor chores.
Karmen was a true nature and animal lover and would often walk around outside with her pets, barefoot despite the sometimes cold weather, and her mother would remind her to please put on shoes and she would reply, “Mom, I’m grounding right now.” Karmen was a very in touch with her environment and wanted to make a difference in her world. She was a very loving and accepting soul who looked for the good in all she faced and in every person she encountered.
Karmen was a Christian and was active in her church’s youth group. Karmen enjoyed participating in church organized events, and brought light and warmth into every room she entered. We will remember her for her loving innocent spirit, and zeal for life.
The McCarney Family will hold a Celebration of Life Ceremony for Karmen on her birthday January 9, 2017. The services will be held at Graceland Baptist Church, 975 Dorset Road at 5:30 in the evening.
