Kem Wayne Scott, 76, of Powhatan, Virginia passed away surrounded by family at home on November 18, 2024. Kem was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 16, 1948.
Son of Max Albert Scott and Merle Irene Scott (Bowersox) Kem was raised in Lincoln Park, Michigan where he learned to play basketball, baseball, football, table tennis, and golf. His love of sports continued throughout his lifetime. He was a diehard University of Michigan sports fan and watched or attended in person every game he could. An avid golfer, he spent much time with family and friends on hundreds of golf courses in the United States and overseas. His love of golf kept his social calendar full with competitions, trips, parties, and many after-golf celebrations.
Kem graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1966, Albion College in 1970, and Harvard University Graduate School of Business Advanced Management Program in 1991. A gifted businessman, his career in sales led him to become president and CEO of Carlisle SynTec Systems in Pennsylvania where he worked for 25 years. He was an officer of several other companies including GAF Roofing in New Jersey, Southwest Tire in Texas, and RGM Products in California. His work path allowed him to visit and live in several states and travel the world.
Kem is survived by his wife of 54 years, Naomi Scott, his brother, James Scott (Tina), his two daughters, Sandra Simons (Matt Bartholomew), Stephanie Brolund (Matt), his grandchildren, Cole Simons, Graham Simons, Lily Brolund, Sam Brolund, Jake Bartholomew, Nicole Bartholomew, and a niece, Kelley Knaebel.
Kem will be remembered for his unwavering generosity and devotion to his family. He was a problem solver and learned to be quite handy and could often be seen with toolbox in hand visiting a neighbor, friend, or family member. He was a giant of a man and could easily be spotted at his grandchildren's many sporting activities as well as school concerts, piano recitals, and any local events in which his grandchildren participated. His family was his soft spot and "Opa" will be sorely missed.
Unannounced as yet, there will be a private celebration of life. Family and friends are urged to leave condolences and "Kem/Opa" memories and anecdotes at info@bennettbardenfh.com. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 247, Powhatan, Va. 23139.
