Kevin Shawn Stover, 58, of Powhatan, passed away Sunday May 23, 2021, at St. Mary’s hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Kevin was born July 3, 1962, to Ruby Virginia Jones in Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby and sister, Mary. Kevin is survived by his children, Joshua, Dustin, Kristin, Dane Einar, Freyr, and Magnus; sisters, Star, Nancy, and Teresa; brothers, Hugh, Robert, and Patrick; grandchildren, Tabby, Bekka, and Korey; and a wonderful assortment of nieces, nephews, and extended friends and family. Kevin served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Guadalcanal and loved sharing his stories and knowledge with his family. He continued to model the strength of service through his leadership in the Boy Scouts of America where he served as a Den Leader. In addition to his deep love of partaking in various outdoor recreation with his children, Kevin was a passionate musician sharing his love of the art by acting as an instructor for the Guitars for Vets program, enjoying jam sessions, playing at his church, Passion Community, and teaching his children and grandson his most prized craft. Kevin shared special interests with his children that he fostered and nurtured at every opportunity: target shooting, camping, the collection and building of firearms with his sons, along with military history and service. With his daughter, he shared a deep love of reading, history, and the fine art of energetic debate. He held his love and pride for his children above all else. Synonymous with the motto of the Guadalcanal, he will be remembered as always “There When Needed”. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Passion Community Church, Powhatan, VA.
