Krista Gail Collier Avinger

June 20, 1978 — December 26, 2024

Powhatan

Krista Gail Collier Avinger, age 46, of Powhatan, VA, went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2024. Krista is survived by her loving husband, Marc Avinger; her son, Nathan Martin; her two bonus sons, Paul and Brian Avinger; her mother, Mary Revels (Sam); her father, Jack Collier; her step-siblings, Steve (Leanna), Stephanie (Joe), Amy (Walt), and David (Kelly); along with a close circle of cherished friends and extended family.

Krista fought bravely against metastatic breast cancer for more than four years. Throughout this challenging battle, she exhibited tremendous courage, boundless optimism, and a positive spirit that inspired all who knew her. It is no surprise to those who loved her that she chose to wait until after Christmas—her most beloved holiday—to say goodbye, honoring her family with one last gift of time.

Krista was a beautiful soul whose legacy of warmth, love, and joy touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her genuine smile, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness provided comfort and light to her family and friends. As a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and friend, Krista poured her heart into her relationships, creating unforgettable memories—especially during the holiday season.

Thanksgiving and Christmas were particularly special to Krista. She had a unique gift for transforming these celebrations into magical experiences, paying meticulous attention to every detail—from the beautiful decorations that graced her home to the delicious meals she lovingly prepared. She was known for planning games and activities that made every holiday gathering a treasured memory. Krista also had a talent for capturing these moments in photographs, ensuring that the joy she spread would be preserved forever.

In addition to her family, Krista loved to travel, with the beach being her favorite destination. She enjoyed visiting Virginia wineries and riding alongside Marc on his Harley. Krista’s favorite restaurant was The Melting Pot, and she always looked forward to a juicy filet mignon. Above all, the thing that made Krista the happiest was her family, particularly being the world’s greatest Boymom to Nathan, Paul, and Brian.

During her battle with cancer, Krista made her wishes clear: when her time on earth was through, she did not want a somber funeral filled with sorrow. Instead, she requested that her family and friends celebrate her life with joy and laughter, once they had time to grieve. In honor of her wishes, a memorial service will be held May 10, 2025 in The Whispering Pines Plantation, 12641 N. Lodore Road, Amelia VA 23002 (Time TBA closer to Service) . Until then, we are encouraged to remember Krista's spirit by living fully and embracing life, as she did. Let us cherish each moment and pursue our dreams, for life is too short, and none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

Krista will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her light, love, and joy will remain in our hearts forever.
