BROWN, LEE ALGUYER, SR. 89, a resident of Powhatan, Va. departed this life on Feb. 7, 2025. He was born January 5, 1936 in El Reno, Oklahoma, the youngest son of Earl Jesse Henry and Helen Marie (Kinneman) Brown. His parents, Earl and Helen and his brothers, George and John and Keith preceded him in death. Survivors include his beloved wife, Hazel Boothe-Brown; three children, Linda Michelle Brown and Jeffrey Clarke Brown of Lake City, Fla. and Lee Brown, Jr. of Martinsburg, W. Va. Two grand children; Jefferey Lee Brown (Crissie) of Greenville, Va. and Michael Aaron Brown of Lake City, Fla.; Four great grandchildren, Joshua Tyler Lee Brown, Aubree Rose Brown, Karlee Marie Brown and Lee Alexander Brown of Greenville, Va.
Lee was a graduate of Ashland High School, Ashland, KY and Fairmont State College, Fairmont, WV. He served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Lee was a "Plank Owner" of the NAVY MEMORIAL in Washington, DC and a Commodore in the Oklahoma City Navy. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. He was also a member of American Legion Post 34, El Reno.
Lee began his career in corrections as a Correctional Officer in Ashland, Kentucky. He was a member of the American Correctional Association, the Virginia Correctional Association and the Virginia Administrative Support Association. He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in El Reno, Oklahoma after serving the Bureau for 27 years.
In 1987, Director Gene M. Johnson offered Lee position as Security Specialist for the Virginia Department of Corrections. In this position, Lee was tasked with writing the Department's first Security Operating Procedures and auditing all units for compliance to Department Security Procedures. Due to the Department's Reorganization, Lee was placed in the position of Unit Manager at Powhatan's M Building in 1994. He retired in 1995 from Powhatan Correctional Center. From 1998 to 2010, he worked part time for the Department of Corrections as a Employee Background Investigator in Richmond, Va. and later serving as the Background Investigation Supervisor in the Western Region Office in Roanoke, Virginia.
Lee served as the Historian for the Brown Family Reunion and was the author of "Joshua Brown and His Descendents." Through his research, Lee traced his family roots back to the 16th Century to George Brown(e) who emigrated from England. He felt it was wonderful to be blessed with two great career opportunities and still have time to do what he loved most, "researching his family roots." His book is copyrighted and registered with the Library of Congress.
Lee will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to your favorite charity. His friends gave him all the flowers he ever needed when he was on this earth with their everlasting support and kind words when he needed them most.
Burial services will be in the Powhatan Memorial Cemetery in Powhatan, Virginia and are private.
