Linda Evelyn Harris Miller, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 23, 2019 at her home in Powhatan. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Martin; one son, Douglas Miller (Catherine); grandchildren, Christopher Martin (Natasha), Brian Miller (Emily), Jill Martin, Sara Hartman, Brooke Harding (Trae); ten great grandchildren and many neices, nephews, cousins and inlaws. She was born at the family farm house in Powhatan County, on November 6, 1927 to Richard Abner Harris and Ella Nature Purdy Harris as the 12th of 13 children. She attended a two room school, graduating from Powhatan High School in 1945. She went to live with her brother in Richmond where she attended business school and had her first job. It was then she met her future husband, Decatur Emmett Miller, Jr. and they were married in September 1948. They were married for 60 years prior to his passing in 2009. They built a home in Richmond where she was active at Branches Baptist Church. She was a police school guard in Richmond for 25 years, followed by working five years in the evidence room at the Richmond Police Headquarters. After retirement they moved back to Powhatan where she was an active member of the Red Lane Baptist Church. She loved working in her yard, which she did almost daily right up to the end. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home,3215 Anderson Hwy.(Rt.60), Powhatan. Family, friends, and others touched by Linda's life are invited to attend a Celebration of her life this Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Red Lane Baptist Church, Powhatan.
