Maralee Janis (White) Grider was born on June 30, 1950 to William and Dori | |||||||
White of Carrollton, Missouri. She attended Root Elementary and graduated | |||||||
from Carrollton High School, class of 1968. Maralee received a BS in Education | |||||||
from Northwest Missouri State University where she was a member of Phi Mu | |||||||
Sorority and synchronized swimming team, the Dolphins. She married her high | |||||||
school sweetheart Stephen Grider in 1970 and they had three children, | |||||||
Stephanie, Gabriel, and Garrett. | |||||||

Mrs. Grider was a beloved elementary teacher in the Carrollton School District | |||||||
for 46 years. After retirement she continued to substitute teach in Norborne and | |||||||
Carrollton school districts and was active in many organizations throughout the | |||||||
county. She was a member of Carrollton Garden Club, Woman’s Club, P.E.O. | |||||||
Sorority, Country Club, and the United Methodist Church. She was Girl Scout | |||||||
and Boy Scout leader for 25 years. In 2010 she was Carrol County School District | |||||||
Teacher of the Year and she was a board member of the Fire Board, Methodist | |||||||
Day Care Board, Library Board, Park Board, MU Extension Board and book club | |||||||
member. Her early years included 4H, church choir, band, cheerleading, Girl | |||||||
Scouts, softball and lifeguarding at the Carrollton public pool. | |||||||

Maralee was dearly loved by family and friends and she will be remembered for | |||||||
her constant kindness, respect for all, her witty and warm personality, and her | |||||||
inner and outer beauty. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, | |||||||
Beverly White. | |||||||

She leaves her husband, Steve of 53 years, her children, Stephanie Overboe | |||||||
(Trent) of Powhatan, VA, Gabriel Grider (Ann) of Smithville, MO., and Garrett | |||||||
Grider (Jenna) of Weston, MO. Five grandchildren Ryann Overboe, Polly | |||||||
Overboe, Tyler Overboe, Hudson Grider, and Genevieve Grider. Three sisters, | |||||||
Juanita White, Barbara Cooper (Jack), and Kristin Hoppock (Ron) and several | |||||||
nieces, nephews, and extended family. | |||||||

A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton, MO at | |||||||
1pm on Sunday, May 5th followed by a Celebration of Life held at the Carrollton | |||||||
Country Club starting at 3pm. To honor Maralee and her bright, fun-loving | |||||||
nature and love of flowers, we encourage guests attending both gatherings to | |||||||
dress in their favorite spring garden colors. | |||||||
