Margaret Flippen Ball, 89, of Powhatan, died February 13, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Omar W. Ball, Jr.; sisters, Lucile F. Brown, Edith F. Rhodes; brother, Rosser N. "Flip" Flippen. She is survived by her children, Wesley A. Ball of Richmond, Betty B. Bowman (Joseph) of Midlothian; one step grandson, Justin A. Bowman; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ball was a member of Powhatan United Methodist Church where she served in many roles. She was a managing partner with her husband of O.W.Ball Lumber Co., a founding director of the Bank of Powhatan(now Essex Bank), former board member of the Powhatan YMCA, the Powhatan Social Services Board, the Powhatan Electoral Board, former member of the Powhatan Women's Club, Eastern Star #146, Anne's Clan for the Relay For Life, a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels and a former Powhatan Christmas Mother. The family is truly grateful to the staff at Spring Arbor of Salisbury for providing superb and loving care during her last years of life. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 16th from 5 to 7pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy.(Rt.60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held 2pm Wednesday, Feb. 17th in the Powhatan United Methodist Church. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Powhatan United Methodist Church Building Fund.
