Marie Smith Oakley

Marie Smith Oakley, born in Richmond, VA, on May 3, 1937, passed away September 24, 2024 to be with the Lord. Marie was preceded in death by a baby brother, Marvin Smith, Jr.; father, Marvin Smith; mother, Althea Smith; and her husband, Glenn Oakley, Sr.

Marie loved the Lord and loved people. She loved giving herself to those that needed her. She is survived by three sons, Larry Glidewell, Marvin Glidewell (Theresa) and Paul Glidewell; step-son, Glenn Oakley, Jr. (Tracey); five grandchildren, Keith Glidewell, Bailey Glidewell, Jacob Glidewell, Rian Glidewell and Addie Glidewell; one great-granddaughter, Lucy Glidewell; eight step-grandchildren; sister's, Deanie Harrison (Bobby), Debbie Snow (Donnie), Jackie Custalow, Mary Snead, Gloria Murr.

She cherished her precious little dog, Angel. Marie loved her friends that she made over the years. She worked for Travelers Ins. Co. for 21 years as a switchboard operator and receptionist. She worked for Noland Co. for 7 years as well. She then devoted her time to a nursing home and volunteered at Chippenham Hospital. 

A Celebration of life will be held at Buford Road Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 8 2024 at 1:00 PM. Service performed by Pastor Tony Kohowt.
