Marilyn M. Samson, 85 of Powhatan, widow of Joseph A. Samson, daughter of Burlan Thornton and Agnes M. Dalglish, went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2020. She is survived by her children, Lynda Moore of Erie, Pa., Valerie Samson of Erie, Pa., Joseph Samson of Erie, Pa., John Samson of Illinois and Thomas Samson of Powhatan; brother, Ronald Thornton of Arizona; 10 grandchildren Patrick, Michael, Nicholas, Dana, Richard, Daniel, Terra, Tabatha, Cale and Ashlynn and 15 great grandchildren. And many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Joseph A Samson and a grandson Joseph Anthony Samson III. Marilyn was an avid bowler most of her life in Erie, Pa and her home of more than thirty years, Powhatan, Virginia. Although she was fond of her hometown of Lawrence Park, she loved her home in Powhatan, Virginia and made many friends and became a member of St. John Neumann Church. She absolutely loved her Catholic Faith and was married, raised all of her children Catholic. She would go to church quite often to pray during the week and also Pray the Rosary. Marilyn was very fond of children and cared for others children whenever they needed her. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the love of her life. She made special trips once a year to visit them all. She also loved her high school class reunions. She attended Jerome High School to the eleventh grade and graduated from Lawrence Park High School. She made it a priority to attend both reunions. Marilyn's hobbies consisted of collecting angels, butterflies, and salt and pepper shakers. She absolutely loved life and lived it to the fullest. She lived by, Frank Sinatra’s song, “I Did It My Way”. She had great compassion for people, the wonderful ability to forgive and forget without hesitation. She is, and will be, sadly missed by all. Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Powhatan. Interment Private. There will be a service in Erie, PA announced at a later date for anyone who would like to attend. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to give to your choice of charity or her favorite, St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
