Mary Donaldson Gwynn Muse, of Midlothian, passed away quietly on June 6, 2022.
She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her husband, Thomas DuVal Flippin, of Midlothian, sister, Ellen Gwynn Mayes, of McKenney, her daughter, Charlotte Muse Mashburn (Fred), of Powhatan, her son, David Muse (Reeta), of Los Angeles, her step-son, Sean Flippin (Teri), grandson, Christopher Scott Mashburn, and step-grandchildren Ryland, Samantha, Virginia and Aiden. Her husband, Thomas DuVal Flippin regards her as "the most wonderful wife who ever lived."
Born on November 2, 1941 to Julius Donaldson Gwynn and Mary Baker Gwynn, Mary went on to graduate from Richmond Professional Institute prior to its being renamed Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in business marketing.
A lifelong Virginian, she will be fondly remembered for her pleasant, humble attitude, and infectious laugh. Her many kindnesses, enthusiasms and benevolence towards the world's smaller creatures, fierce sense of loyalty, graceful endurance, her quietly-observant, acute and sometimes sardonic humor will be greatly missed by those who loved her. Her appreciation for and intermittently successful relationships with her many wonderful, recalcitrant gardens not only brought her joy, but joy to those around her.
Mary volunteered as a student mentor for Crestwood Elementary School and taught bible study at Bon Air United Methodist Church of which she was a long-term member.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who attended to Mrs. Muse during her illness.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life ceremony to be held at Bon Air Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be considered for Bon Air United Methodist Church, 1645 Buford Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23235.
