Mary Darlene Shmidt, 85, of Powhatan, Va. went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2023, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Shmidt was born on December 7, 1937, in Horton, Kansas and was the daughter of the late Emmet and Ethel Saucier. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son Frederick Daniel Shmidt, a granddaughter Grace Shmidt, eight sisters and one brother.
Darlene was a loving, devoted and faithful wife who worked side by side with her husband in the ministry since 1956, all while raising and educating her children on the road. She had unwavering faith in the midst of adversity. She had a heart for people in need no matter the circumstances, was always willing to volunteer at youth camps, various vacation Bible Schools even gigging frogs with the boys. In her downtime she loved a good cup of coffee and working puzzles. What she was remembered most for was her love for the Lord and being a devoted wife and mom. She had a hard life but a great life and wouldn't have changed a thing.
On April 16, 1956, Darlene married Rev. Frederick Shmidt who survives.
In addition to her husband of 67 years she is survived by a daughter, Ruth Ann Milby and husband, Terry of Powhatan, Va two sons, Michael Shmidt and wife, Lessie of Norfolk, Va and Gabriel Shmidt and wife Cassie of Elkton, Va. Nine grandchildren, Morgan Gamble and husband, JB, Caleb Milby, Natonya Simmons, Zander Shmidt, Hannah Shmidt, Isaac Shmidt, Titus Shmidt, Abigail Shmidt, Judah Shmidt, one great-grandchild, Reuben Gamble and One sister, Georgia (Peanut) Rhay of Astoria, Oregon.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Friday, December 8, 2023, at The Bennett and Barden Funeral Home 3215 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, Va. 23139. A funeral service will held at 1 pm, with viewing from 12:30 -1 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Elkton Pentecostal Church 16704 E. Summit Ave, Elkton, Va. with pastors Sam Luke from Victory Tabernacle in Chesterfield, Va. and Pastor Eddie Byers of Elkton Pentecostal Church.
Following the service, Darlene will be laid to rest at Elk Run Cemetery until resurrection day when we will all be reunited once again.
