Mattie Carter Clayton

CLAYTON, Mattie, 94, passed away at her home in Powhatan County on Feb. 3, 2013. She was the beloved mother of Janie, Larry, Rose, Little Jack and Frederick and respected matriarch of the County Seat Restaurant family. For 35 years, Mattie was the tireless provider of food, transportation and comfort for the students and staff of Huguenot Academy. She is survived by her daughters, Janie Glenn Dean, Rose Glenn Laipple; son, Frederick Clayton; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Myrtle Carter Wells of Dinwiddie; many nieces and nephews, who were members of her extended family and very dear to her, especially Jean Penny and Joe Clayton. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Clayton; sons, Larry Glenn and Little Jack Clayton and four grandsons. Special thank you to Shirley (daughter-n-law) and Mandy (granddaughter) who have made their home with Mom and taken care of her these past months. The family will receive friends Tuesday (tonight) from 5 to 8 pm at the County Seat Restaurant, 3883 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan, and again noon till 2 pm Wednesday in the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 5780 Mount Moriah Road, Powhatan and where funeral services will follow at 2 pm. Interment church cemetery.
