On September 6th, 2021, Micheal Thomas Bernard (Mike, Honey, Daddy, Grandpa, Gankaw, Peepaw), made his upward journey to Heaven. Mike was born on June 12th, 1947 in Danville, Virginia to Annie L. Bernard and Joseph L. Bernard. It was in Danville, VA where he married the love of his life Judith Carolyn Odum on June 19th 1965. They shared 56 loving and dedicated years together. In 1971 Mike and Judy relocated to Cumberland, VA where they currently reside. Mike has 3 brothers and one sister, James (Jimmy) Bernard (Anne), Buddy Bernard (Audrey), David Bernard (Susan) and Joanne Chattin (Dan). Mike has 3 sons, Micheal L Bernard (Teresa), Christopher J Bernard (Jil) and Matthew J Bernard (Bobbi). He also has 9 Grand children and 14 Great GrandChildren. Mike was A US Navy Radioman entering the Service in 1964 and was Honorably discharged in 1968. After the service Mike went on to have a long and fulfilling career with At&t retiring after 30 years. He dedicated his life to serving God, his wife Judy and his family and always made sure people knew it. He was a Master Angler and could usually be found on a lake or pond where he would be slaying the Bass. He was preceded in his upward journey by his Mother, Annie Bernard, his father Joseph Bernard and his Grand Daughter Seren Bernard. He will be missed by an entire community of loyal friends and loving family. There will be a celebration of life for Mike at Shiloh New Covenant Church, 665 Anderson Hwy Cumberland, VA 23040 on the 19th of September at 2:00 PM. The service will be held outside, weather permitting. We ask all attendees to wear masks and avoid personal contact for the safety of everyone in attendance.
