Milton Jesse Jones, 82, went to be with the Lord on August 28th, 2024, at 10:43 PM, surrounded by the unwavering love of his local family during his final moments. Born in Conway, South Carolina, to Jessie Mack and Mildred V. Jones, Milton was a devoted and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and Army veteran.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Janie Jones, and their children, M. Jeff Jones (Stacey) and Sharon Ridings (Eric). Milton's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Shawn Michael Wallace (Samantha) and great-grandchildren Claire and Dean, Jeremy Wallace (Kaitlin) and great-grandchildren Paxton, Griffin, and Hudson; Hannah Futrell (Jacob), Tanner Jones (Isabella), Tristan Jones (Mary-Virginia), Hope Jones, and Levi Cirre, who was like a grandson to him.
Milton is also survived by his siblings: Mary Cain (Gene), Janette Burkette (Doug, deceased), Patricia Ann Jones (Barry, deceased), and S.K. Jones (Dee Dee). He leaves behind many cherished nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Milton and Janie met as children and shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Janie often said of her beloved husband, "He was my better half, my life partner, my soulmate, and I don't remember much life without him." Milton was affectionately nicknamed "St. Milton" by his family for his steadfast integrity and kindness. Known for his ever-present smile and quiet demeanor, Milton was a man of few words, but when he spoke, everyone listened.
His grandchildren will always remember his deep love for family, faith, country music, John Wayne movies, classic cars, and cooking. Despite his quiet nature, Milton was a good sport during the couple's many Tupperware rallies, where he would dress up, perform skits, and enthusiastically participate in whatever was asked of him. Even as his health declined, Milton's quick wit and humor remained a cherished trait, shared by many of his children and grandchildren. It was amazing to his family that, even as the disease progressed and took most of his faculties, Milton could still voice a prayer before meals with clarity and conviction.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mercy Mall of Virginia, an organization close to Milton's family. Donations can be sent to PO Box 1890, Midlothian, VA 23113, or made online at www.mercymallva.org.
Milton's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, kindness, and humor will continue to inspire all who knew him.
