Monte P. Harris, 70, of Powhatan, went to be with the Lord March 29, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Harris; son, Paul Harris (Tracy); his mother, Mosephine Harris; step daughter, Laurie Whelan; three sisters, Gloria Davis, Darlene Bowlin (Ricky), Eva Cole (Billy); three grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberley Harris and his father Ford Harris. Monte was named after his uncle, Monte Kennedy who was a professional ball player for the New York Giants. He was fun loving and outgoing, loved meeting people and always ready to celebrate. He was a wonderful Son, Husband, Father, Brother and Grandfather. He never missed a sporting or choral event for the grandchildren. He loved bowling, NASCAR, horse racing and golf. He made his only hole in one at Amelia Golf Course, but his greatest love was for his family and family outings. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy.(Rt.60), Powhatan. A celebration of Monte's life will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Genito Presbyterian Church, Powhatan. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America (www.pva.org).
