Nancy Ellen Morgan Quinn, 76, of Powhatan, VA passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2024. Nancy was born on October 30, 1947 to June Porterfield Augst and Elwood Jackson Morgan, Sr. in Richmond, VA. She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Ray Quinn, and their three sons Morgan, Drew (Jaime), and Patrick (Katie). She was preceded in death by her parents and son Bobby. Nancy is also survived by her two siblings - Marilee Tretina (Paul), and Elwood Morgan; daughter-in-law Anne Quinn, nine grandchildren - Nikki (Nathan), Stephen (Jessie), Brandon (Lauren), Katie (Zack), Fitzi, Patrick Jr., Noah, Keegan, and her "Princess" Sabrina; and six great-grandchildren - Scarlett, Hunter, Kyleigh, Stephen Jr., Ellie Mae, and Caroline; and a host of much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Nancy grew up in Lakeside and graduated from Hermitage High School in 1966. She worked as a key-punch operator at the DMV before settling down to pursue her life-long passion, raising a family. Ray and Nancy married on May 12, 1973 bringing together their two families. Raising four boys was a challenge, but Nancy would say they were her pride and joy. She spent hours at sporting events, band competitions, scouts, or whatever activity they participated in. When struggles came, Nancy attacked them with determination, and a list of what needed to be done. Her support of her children's needs led to involvement with the Learning Disabilities Association of Virginia, where she served as President in addition to other Board positions. It wasn't enough to only advocate for her own children, but to help raise awareness and make change for other families.
As the boys got older, Nancy returned to school and earned her Associates Degree from John Tyler. She would substitute teach at Powhatan High School and eventually found her place as a Merchandiser working with Isotoner and Dooney & Burke. Nancy was very involved with her parish home, St. John Neumann, volunteering as a catechist, member of the Catholic Women's Organization, and many other ministries. She also joined the Powhatan Garden Club, where she served as Secretary and Photographer.
In retirement, Nancy enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She often shared her love of cooking, gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing, photography, and shopping with them. She loved her animals, enjoyed hot summer days in the pool or at the beach, playing cards, attending plays or going to lunch with friends, spa days with sparkly red nail polish, listening to the Moody Blues, Snoopy, Flamingos, and living life to the fullest. Nancy will be remembered most for her soft-hearted compassion, listening ear, sound advice, and fierce love of family.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 25 starting at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in the Columbarium. Family and Friends are invited to stay for a reception after the interment. All will take place at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2480 Batterson Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's name to the Human Concerns Fund at St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
