Nellie R. Hinson

March 21, 1942 — December 8, 2023

Powhatan

Nellie R. Hinson passed away on December 8, 2023.
Nell was born on March 21, 1942 to Ernest and Frances Collier. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Joe Hinson and beloved sister, Dolly Liles.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette Townsend, her son, Eddie Hinson, daughter-in-law, Laurie Hinson, her grandchildren Shannon Goss, Cody Hinson, Colt Hinson and great granddaughter Madison Goss, her sisters Becky Burkett, Connie Casper, Bonnie Carter and brother, Ernest Collier, Jr.
She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Grandma Nell's greatest joy was showering her grandchildren with and abundance of unconditional love and never wavering devotion. Her presence, as well as, her famous peanut butter brownies were a constant at their youth baseball, basketball, band concert and school events throughout the years. Nell was our foundation and quietly taught us what being there for someone really looked like. Never pushing, but always standing in the wings to catch us and steady us as we moved through this life.
Nell was known by many Powhatan locals as the little lady behind the register of Flatrock Supermarket. She had a smile, kind word and big hug for all that crossed her path.
She shared many beach trips with her loving sisters and loved attending holiday festivities with them throughout the years.
Nell and Joe's lake home was the summer hot spot. Many family reunions, gatherings, quiet and not so quiet weekends were held there and lifelong memories were made. Friends and friends of friends quickly became family while sharing boat and Jet Ski rides, all day swims, good food, and late night poker games under the roof of the quintessential picnic shelter.
We all won the lottery by being given the gift of sharing our life with her. Although she will be greatly missed and our hearts ache, we will take all her life lessons of love, acceptance and quiet strength and treat others in a way that would make her proud.
A private family celebration of her life will be held.
Rest in peace our dear, sweet Grandma Nell.
