Robert Eugene Butler

Robert Eugene Butler, 89, of Powhatan, VA, departed this life on August 31, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Butler; children, Wayne Butler (Gail), Elaine Gould (Dana). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cameron Butler, Chris Butler, Katie Gould, Hannah Gould, Kelly Boaz, and Holly Gould; and great-grandson, Rowan Butler; his brothers, Donald and Milton Butler and his sisters, Boice Saul, and Reed Gray. He was preceded in death by his father, Kelly Butler; his mother, Della Browning; his brothers, James, Drummond "Luke", Kelly Jr., and Fred Butler; and his sister Mary Buckner.
 
Robert served in the U.S. Navy and retired from DuPont with 38 years of service. He was a member of the Lions Club, a volunteer for Prevent Blindness, and a member of the Graceland Baptist Church. He was recognized with many awards by the Powhatan Lions Club, Lions of Virginia Foundation, and Lions Club International Foundation for his outstanding service and dedication, including the Melvin Jones Fellowship.
 
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, at Graceland Baptist Church, 975 Dorset Rd, Powhatan, VA 23139. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to James River Hospice, 9100 Arboretum Parkway, Suite 290, N Chesterfield, VA 23236.
