Robert Henry "Bob" Burts

Robert Henry "Bob" Burts 73, of Powhatan, went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday August 19, 2014. While enjoying his time on the Outer Banks, he suddenly succumbed to heart disease. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hunter and Elizabeth Cardwell Burts and his brother Thomas Hunter Burts all of Riedsville, N.C. He moved to Richmond in the 1960's where he lived most of his life in Hanover and Powhatan and had a long and productive career at Philip Morris, where he retired as a Shift Superintendent. Bob enjoyed cooking for his family, friends and church members at Muddy Creek Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, watching TV, NASCAR, professional and college team sports. Bob was passionate about the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, the ocean and spending time with his wife and best friend Cheryl. He was extremely loving and proud of his four children, Hunter Burts of Milford, Katherine B. Jennell, Michael Burts (Abegail) and Michelle B. Smith (Ricky) all of Mechancisville. He is also survived by his sister Jane B. Rainey of Southerland; grandsons, Russell Jennell, Jacob Smith; loving nieces, nephews and his beloved lab, Maggie. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy.(Rt.60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am in the Muddy Creek Baptist Church, 3470 Trenholm Rd. Powhatan. Interment church cemetery. Online condolences may be made at bennettbardenfh.com
