MEADOWS, Robert Joseph, on February 25, 2013, our "Bobs" left us unexpectedly, as quietly as he had lived. Born on September 3, 1969 in Fayetteville, NC, he lived most of his life in Powhatan, Va. He worked during high school at Hatcher's Dairy Farm and after graduation, at Brown's Chevrolet. He later graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in Tennessee, but an accident at work in 1994 left him unable to pursue his lifelong dream of auto body work. I am forever indebted to Fran Carleton, who suggested that he volunteer in the school library and then convinced the School Board that he was needed full time, thus beginning a 17 year span of employment in the Powhatan County School system. Perfectly suited to his quiet nature, the job entailed cataloging books, running the Accelerated Reader program, reading new books for age-appropriateness, and helping with check-out. Despite the difficulties of being wheelchair bound, he was always prompt and dependable and his co-workers enjoyed the challenge of trying to engage him in conversation, which was easier if the topic was cars. His love of those was obvious from his extensive collection and his knowledge of automobile history, makes, and models began at an early age and was boundless. After his father's death 3 years ago, he developed a close relationship with his youngest brother, Michael, who shared his enthusiasm for all things vehicular. Robert's memory is cherished by his large family; his mom, Patty, his siblings, Jeri Eroh (Ronnie), Jennifer Adkins (Eddie), Sandy Morin (Matt), Melissa Perry (Tom), Steve (Tiffany), Tim (KC), Mandi Mosler (Derrick), Matthew, Amber and Michael; also 16 nieces and nephews; his grandmother, Ethel Meadows; many aunts, uncle and cousins. He also leaves behind friends and co-workers, who respected his perseverance, his strong work ethic and his ability to overcome his physical challenges with courage and dignity. The family welcomes everyone to join us in remembering his life at a casual reception at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan on Saturday, March 9 from 3 to 5 pm.
