Roy W. Nicholls

NICHOLLS, Roy W., 91, of Powhatan, widower of Estelle Maxey Nicholls, passed away September 24, 2014. He is survived by his daughter, Dena Morgan of Powhatan; granddaughter, Dawn McQueen (Tony); great-granddaughter, Kristen Neilsen (Matt); great-great-grandson Cameron Metcalf; sisters, Mary Ann Hubbard (Franklin) of Powhatan, Jane Jones of Halifax, Nancy Alexander (Ed) of Powhatan; special family friend, Bobby Moore. Mr. Nicholls was a WWII Army Air Force veteran serving in Guam and the Phillipines, he was the owner and operator of Nicholls' Store in Macon which also held a US Post Office that Roy was Master of. Roy served as Chairman and member of the Powhatan Industrial Development Authority for 27 years, served on Social Services Board for 9 years and a member of Powhatan Historial Society. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., in the Providence Presbyterian Church, Powhatan. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, were Roy was a life time member and Elder for many terms.
