Rufus Aubrey Joyce

Joyce Rufus Aubrey, 88, of Powhatan, went to be with the Lord October 9, 2017. He was the son of Richard and Lillie Joyce and was preceded in death by siblings Lee Joyce Jr., Thelma Babcock, Billie Ranson, Arnold Joyce, Betty Jean Curtis and Kenneth Joyce. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elane Joyce; son, Lonnie Joyce (Kathy) of Powhatan; grandsons, Christopher Joyce (Megan) of Midlothian, Dr. Nicholas Joyce and his fiance' Dr. Linh Phan of Powhatan and numerous nephews and nieces. Mr. Joyce retired from Pleasants Hardware after 38 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, an avid gardener, fisherman, sports enthusiast especially wrestling. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loved spending time with his entire family and friends and his heavenly father. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway (Rt.60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 5780 Mt. Moriah Rd., Powhatan. Interment church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Powhatan Rescue Squad or your preferred charity.
