Rev. R.A. Richardson, 86, of Powhatan, formerly of New Castle, Va., Johnstown and Port Leyden, NY, went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2017. He was born April 28, 1931, in Rochester, NY, to the late Victor and Ruby Richardson. He served as a police officer in Richmond, Va. for five years and then began a lifelong ministry as a Baptist preacher for over 60 years in five states and mission work in 10 countries. His greatest desire was to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he came into contact with, and he looked forward to the day he would see the face of his Savior. "What a glorious day that will be," he often proclaimed.
He was preceded in death by one son, Hetzle "Lee" Richardson; brothers, Floyd Kornbau, Peter Kern; sister, Katherine Richardson. He is survived by his wife and love of his life of 62 years, Anna May Richardson; six children, Rick Richardson (Melody), Paula Hofmann (David), Rhoda Thompson (Foster), Dan Richardson, Stephen Richardson (Joanna), Tim Richardson (Christa); one brother, Roger Kornbau; twenty one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt.60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Holly Hills Baptist Church, 1659 Anderson Hwy., Powhatan. Interment at Powhatan Community Cemetery, Powhatan.
