Trula "Dolly" Hess

Trula "Dolly" Hess 87, of Powhatan, passed away on December 28, 2023. Dolly was born in Bland County, on July 6, 1936. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ira Hess and daughter Tammy Hess; as well as her siblings Dorothy Poole, Claude Neal, Mary Gautier, Madeline Kirk, Margie Songer and Cleta Stoots. She is survived by her 5 devoted children: Deborah Salyer, Darby Spain (Rusty), Jamie Hess (Lesa), George Hess, and Amy Tooley (Todd); and 5 grandchildren: Joshua Spain, Thomas Hodges, Matthew Spain, Lydia Hodges and James Hess; 4 great grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her high-spirited character, abundant garden, captivating stories, and endless supply of delicious, homemade apple butter. 
The family will receive friends in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, Wednesday January 3, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Followed by a graveside service, 1:00 PM in the Muddy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Powhatan. Online condolences may be made at bennettbardenfh.com.
