Vivian "Anne" Mitchell Cox

Cox, Vivian “Anne” Mitchell, 82, born in Emporia, VA left us on April 4, 2017 to join in heaven her loving husband of 58 years, James W. Cox and her only beloved son, Stephen James Cox. She is now free from the clutches of Alzheimer’s and will have all of the beautiful memories of her life again. Vivian was a stay at home mother for many years and dedicated her life to raising her four children. She then worked for C & P Telephone Company until her retirement. She was an avid reader and writer and an amazing cook, who loved to feed people her famous lemon top cake and corn pudding. Vivian ran the kitchen at FOA Cancer camp, feeding hundreds of people, for many years and was a founding member of Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation. She spent many years volunteering in the community and for the church. She is survived by her three daughters, Valarie Ayers (Jack) of Powhatan, Veanne Cox of New York, and Vanita Mattson (Rick) of Tampa. She also leaves behind the grandchildren that she loved, Brandon Ayers (Mary), Travis Ayers (Lauren), Langley Mattson, Orlea Mattson and Waverly Mattson and one great grandchild Julianne Ayers. Vivian will be missed by many relatives, especially Judy Cox, her sister in law, who visited her often, church family members, friends and care takers that were dedicated to her. She was happy, animated, dancing and laughing until the end. She was a generous Christian and a vibrant light in our world. Her service will be held at May Memorial Baptist Church in the village of Powhatan on Sunday April 9th at 3 pm. A family graveside service will be held at a later date in Emporia, VA. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
