Wilma Anne Rose Weimer (“Billie”) died on December 5, 2024. She was proceeded in death by her parents, JC and Elizabeth “Bessie” Rose, her four siblings, her husband, George Alexander Weimer, and her son, George Alexander Weimer Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret Weimer Parrish and Martha Weimer O’Brien (Tom), her daughter-in-law Svetlana Weimer, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Billie was born November 18, 1929 in Coeburn Virginia and moved to Powhatan, Virginia, as a child, She was graduated from Powhatan High School and the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Luke’s hospital and then moved to Norton Va where she served as night supervisor at the United Mineworkers Hospital. She returned to Richmond and worked as a private duty nurse where she met her future husband, Dr. George Alexander Weimer (“Al.”) After a long-distance courtship, she moved to Oklahoma City where she worked as a nurse until she married Al in November 1952. Their first child Alex born in 1953 in Clovis, New Mexico and their daughter Peggy was born in Honolulu Hawaii in 1954. After Al was discharged from the Air Force in 1955, they settled in Gretna Virginia, where Al established a family practice at Ramsey Medical Center. Billie was an active member of the Gretna community, serving as a Girl Scout leader, participating in bridge and other social clubs and assisting as a nurse in Al’s practice; on several occasions, she relied upon her experience as a labor and delivery nurse and delivered several babies while Al was attending other patients. Her third child Martha was born in Danville in 1961. In 1964 they left Gretna and moved to Bethany West Virginia, where Al completed a residency in anesthesiology at Ohio Valley General Hospital. They moved to Greenville, North Carolina and Billie continued her civic work in the community until they left in 1975 to return to Richmond to take care of her mother. Billie lived in the Richmond and/or Powhatan areas, with short residencies in Florida, until her death. Billie was a competitive Scrabble player and an excellent cook and hostess. In addition to travel, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. She taught Jay, Alexander and Toby how to crab and nurtured their curiosity. She enjoyed a dirty martini, a good hand at bridge, reading novels and poetry, and could recite “The Raven” almost until her death. Services will be held at Bennett and Barden Funeral Homes, 32215 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA on Sunday, December 15 at 12:30 pm followed by a late lunch at the County Seat Restaurant, 3883 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Blessed Sacrament Huguenot School, 2501 Academy Road, Powhatan, VA 23139 or to a charity of their choice.
