Zora Mae Ross, 87, of Amelia Courthouse passed away at her home with family on Friday, August 19, 2022. Zora was born December 23, 1934 in West Virginia, to the late Harmey and Chelsy Morris Walls.
She was the oldest of eight children. She was predeceased by all of them, Rose, Mary, Liddy, Sonny, Debro, Maggie, and Kay. She was married four times, (predeceased by: Shirl Garretson, Walter Ellis, Herbert Ross, and Edgar Garretson). She has four children, two of which have passed, Dennis Garretson and Jerry Ellis. She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Funderburk (Mike) and Darla Garretson (Eddie); six grandchildren, Grady Lynch, Roger Funderburk (Kelly), and Amanda Fanning (Jason), Misty Engerson, Jeremy Ellis (Brandy), and Jacob Dulgher; five greatgrandchildren (Eliana, Declan, Claire, Macy, and Ben); along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
She was a very kind and loving woman who was loved by all who met her. She never met a stranger. She spent her life as a caregiver to many, serving as a private caregiver professionally to many over the years. She continued this role of caring for others in all aspects of her life until the end. She did this in so many different ways, some of them were through physical acts of assistance, some were her listening to us during a difficult time, or most importantly for her, praying for others when they needed it the most. She was a strong woman who overcame many challenges in life. She did all of this with her head held high and with grace. Zora loved to spend time with her family and talk on the phone. She loved all animals, but especially birds (Cardinals in particular). She enjoyed watching her daily soap opera shows. She enjoyed shopping and bargain hunting at thrift stores. She loved music and loved to read. She found a way to be content anywhere that she was at. She was a truly selfless woman of strong faith and she will be greatly missed.
The family will have visitation at Bennett and Barden Funeral Home in Powhatan, VA on Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 1:00pm - 7:00pm.
